A Vision in the Heavenlies

Normally, I am not one to see visions. It is with some reluctance that I share something that happened to me in the mid 1980's; about 1984 or 1985 if memory serves me.

First, let me be quick to tell you that I don't think I am one bit special because I happened to see a vision from the Lord. It is scriptural and right that God sometimes speaks to people through visions. The scripture is very plain on that matter.

I am of the opinion however, that it is no big compliment to us when the Lord speaks to us through visions. Over the years I have come to understand, at least in my case, that I was either so dull of hearing or so busy and occupied with other things that perhaps the only option God had left was to speak to me in a profound, jolting way such as a vision. It got my attention all right.

The Vision

I was walking through my home one day, minding my own business and not thinking about anything at all. All of a sudden I felt or sensed that I had been caught up into the atmosphere. This happened in an instant.

I immediately saw what would appear to be a map of the state of Kentucky. It was not a map of great detail. It was just simply an outline of Kentucky showing the complete borders of the entire state. Other than the outline, the state itself looked blank; almost an off-white color.

I was looking at the scene from a southern vantage point and had a gentle downward view over the entire state. It seemed that I was viewing the state from quite a distance away. Many miles in fact; or so it seemed.

There was some sort of activity high above and directly over the state that suddenly caught my attention. There was a dark gray cloud high in the atmosphere. It was gathering from the east and west and settling directly over the state. As this dark cloud was gathering, I saw a large funnel-like object or something resembling a megaphone begin to lower itself out of the dark cloud downward toward the earth.

This funnel or megaphone was pointing straight up and down as it was being lowered. The wide end of the funnel was pointed upward while the small end was being pointed downward. I watched until the lower end was only a short distance from the map. It was pointed directly into the area of Kentucky where I live.

When the funnel stopped moving, it was as if it was suspended in mid air. The narrow end was close to the earth while the wide end was positioned in the dark cloud I had seen high above.

As I looked at the cloud, I could see some strange dark beings in the cloud. They came close to the large end of the funnel and started motioning toward the funnel. As they did so, the dark cloud started moving slowly into and down the funnel. In a short time, the cloud started pouring out at the small end of the funnel. The dark cloud would go straight down from the funnel and was very concentrated until it reached the ground. When this happened, the cloud started to spread out in all directions. This continued until all of South Central Kentucky was completely covered by the cloud.

As I watched, the cloud hovered over the whole area, it became darker in color. Then the cloud started moving briskly within itself. It started breaking up into small pieces, each piece becoming very dark and falling to the ground. This continued for some time. As the cloud started to clear, I could see the parts of the cloud more clearly as the hit the ground.

I could now see clearly as the dark pieces of the cloud were forming themselves into letters, the letters would form into words and the words would then hit the ground and embed themselves into the map. The words seemed like they had been there for a very long time. They looked old and aged.

At this point I could see the words very clearly. They were (and this is the order I saw them in):

Ignorance, Religious Tradition, Apathy

I have thought about this vision for many years. I have shared it with several other people. I now know and understand that the Lord was showing me what happened many, many years ago. Perhaps a century or longer.

I also know that ignorance, religious tradition, and apathy in the churches in this area is very strong. They are in fact demonic spirits that have a very strong hold over this entire area of South Central Kentucky.

Because of this, there is simply not a very strong move of the Holy Spirit in this area. Not in evangelism and reaching lost people nor in the area of spiritual growth and maturity in believers. Most Christians that were babes in Christ thirty years ago are for the most part still babes in Christ today.

I am not sharing this as a criticism but as a simple statement of reality observed and as a matter of revealed spiritual fact.

Unless there are some believers in this area who see this and begin to deal with it in prayer and intercession, then I can tell you that this area and the spiritual climate that is within it can not and will not change

If we continue to do what we have been doing as the church in this area, then we are always going to have what we've got right now.

Serious isn't it.
